Ruptured Album Release // ALKO B Live Session // Bandcamp Exclusive

2018 marked the 10th anniversary of “The Ruptured Sessions”, a series of live performances set and conducted in the studios of Radio Lebanon, during Ziad Nawfal’s “Ruptures” show.
These sessions were (and still are) aimed at highlighting the best of what Lebanon has to offer, as far as local musical talent goes. The list is long and varied, and includes such artists as Nadine Khouri, Youmna Saba, Rayess Bek, Fareeq el Atrash, Mashrou’ Leila, Wanton Bishops, Who Killed Bruce Lee, Postcards, and many others.
To celebrate these live sessions’ 10 years of existence, we will be releasing this Christmas a set by Lebanese musician Salim Naffah aka Alko B, recorded on January 2nd, 2017. The session features tracks from Alko B’s first release, “Sex Tapes”, as well as a couple of new songs.

Ruptured Album Release // INTERBELLUM // Dead Pets, Old Griefs

Interbellum – Dead Pets, Old Griefs [CD release, October 2018]

Interbellum is the musical project of Lebanese singer-songwriter Karl Mattar. Formed in 2015, the project sees him working alongside multi-instrumentalist and producer Fadi Tabbal and other musicians from the Beirut music scene. Interbellum started as a lo-fi rock outfit and expanded into more left-field pop rock.

Dead Pets, Old Griefs (Ruptured, 2018) is the band’s second album and features 10 songs that revolve around themes of memory, time, childhood, and loss. Apocalyptic imagery – real, imagined and figurative – permeates the album, and the instrumentation follows suit, warping, distorting and folding on itself. The record plays like a broken music box, its kaleidoscopic melodic songs disjointed and smeared by noise, dissonance and processed sounds. Recorded in Tabbal’s Tunefork Studios, the album also features contributions by Marwan Tohme, Julia Sabra and Pascal Semerdjian from Postcards, as well as Camille Cabbabé from KŌZŌ.

MusicMap’s ‘Soundscape’ series is a brilliant way to keep up with local music scenes and global trends. Every few weeks, the people behind this amazing platform visit a different country and ask someone familiar with the scene to serve up a mix of the finest local sounds… “This month we’re visiting Lebanon for our first Soundscape from the Middle East. Our guide this time is Beirut-based DJ, promoter and producer Ziad Nawfal, co-founder of ground-breaking independent label Ruptured and managing director of Irtijal, the country’s first experimental music festival. Ziad Nawfal has spent his career championing independent Lebanese music via his ‘Ruptures’ and ‘Decalages’ shows on Radio Lebanon, so we knew we were in for a treat with his Soundscape mix…”
