Ruptured News // MUSIC RELIEF FOR BEIRUT #3: Ruptured Sessions Vol.6 + Tunefork Musicians’ Fund

In the aftermath of the August 4th explosion in Beirut, which left several hundred people dead, thousands injured, and resulted in city-wide material damage, several labels and platforms have started releasing compilations in support of the crisis.

The Ruptured Sessions Vol.6 is the latest iteration of Ziad Nawfal‘s series of live recordings in the studios of Radio Lebanon. Spanning a period of 10 years, this collection includes live versions of songs by Lebanese musicians Alko B, The Incompetents, Kinematik, Postcards, Safar, The Wanton Bishops, Who Killed Bruce Lee, and Youmna Saba, as well as previously unreleased tracks by Charlie Rayne, Cosmic Analog Ensemble, and El Rass & Munma.

All Bandcamp sales from this release will be forwarded to Tunefork StudiosBeirut Musicians’ Fund, aimed at providing relief to musicians impacted by the deadly blast of August 4th. The fund will replace musicians’ damaged recording equipment, instruments and various music gear.

Ruptured News // MUSIC RELIEF FOR BEIRUT #2: Amsterdam, Beirut, Portland

In the aftermath of the August 4th explosion in Beirut, which left several hundred people dead, thousands injured, and resulted in city-wide material damage, several labels and platforms have started releasing compilations in support of the crisis.

Amsterdam-based electronic label Modular Mind, headed by Lebanese musician Kujo, reduced the price of its discography by 80% (offering its whole catalog for a mere 10 euros). All resulting sales will be used to support families whose homes were devastated in the blast.

German musician Alfred 23 Harth, nowadays based in Seoul, donated to Beirut’s free improv label Al Maslakh Records an album entitled Neowise. The album consists of previously unreleased live recordings from A23H’s Gestalt Et Jive quartet, featuring Steve Beresford, Ferdinand Richard and Peter Hollinger. All sales of this digital album will be donated to Lebanese organizations providing relief to the victims of the Beirut explosion.

Beirut-based dance label Diggers’ Delight Records released a ten-track compilation entitled Beirut Bounce Vol. 1 in June 2020. It features 10 artists from Beirut hailing from varied musical backgrounds, serving up a selection of house, techno and ambient grooves. All proceeds from digital sales will be donated to relief efforts in Beirut, following the devastating effects of the August 4th blast.

For its 50th release, Portland-based label Beacon Sound released Points Of No Return, a compilation of unreleased tracks by artists who have worked with the label over the years in a variety of contexts. This 2 hour, 22-track compilation presents a diverse roster of artists operating in the field of contemporary electronic, ambient and indie music. All digital proceeds will be donated to Impact Lebanon, a nonprofit collecting funds for the relief and reconstruction efforts in Beirut.

Ruptured News // MUSIC RELIEF FOR BEIRUT #1: Berlin

In the aftermath of the August 4th explosion in Beirut, which left several hundred people dead, thousands injured, and resulted in city-wide material damage, several labels and platforms have started releasing compilations in support of the crisis.

Berlin-based label Syrphe Records, a platform for experimental and noise music from Asia and Africa, put out four compilations entitled Retrieving Beirut, with music by 94 acts from 40 countries. Featured genres include ambient, drone, techno, prog rock and industrial. Proceeds will be offered to one or more Lebanese charities.

Lebanese musician Rabih Beaini released The Sacred Rage on his label Morphine Records. The 12-track compilation features new tracks by the likes of German musicians Monolake and Rashad Becker, Lebanese musicians ‘A’ Trio, Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, and Beaini himself. All proceeds will go to organisations working on the ground in Beirut.

Solidarity With Beirut from the Berlin-based label Habibi Funk features seven cuts by artists from Beirut, including Roger Fakhr, revered band Ferkat Al Ard and Munir Khauli, whose track, “Heik Ha Nishtghil?,” was recorded in the mid-’80s. All proceeds from the compilation will go to the Lebanese Red Cross.
