MIKE COOPER // 1st Ruptured Session // 21 May 2010

British guitar player MIKE COOPER has established himself in the past decade or so as an international musical explorer, performing and recording, solo and in a number of inspired groupings and a variety of genres. His roots and inspiration range freely through traditional country blues, folk, original songs, free improvisation, pop songs, exotica, electronic music, electro-acoustic music, and โ€˜sonic gesturalโ€™ playing. Mike Cooper was the guest of RUPTURES to talk about his two concerts in Beirut, on May 24 at EM Chill (along with Scrambled Eggs, Beirut’s punk/experimental rock musical activists), and on May 26 at Beirut Art Center. Cooper was accompanied in this interview by Lebanese musician Sharif Sehnaoui.

Press Review // The Ruptured Sessions Vol. 2

The Ruptured Sessions Volume 2

[By Ziad Nawfal]

A CD compilation gathering some of the most notorious protagonists of Beirutโ€™s experimental music scene, captured live in the studios of Radio Lebanon. โ€œThe Ruptured Sessionsโ€ is a series of live recordings that take place in the studios of Radio Lebanon 96.2FM, during Ziad Nawfal’s weekly Rupturesย program. These recordings focus on musicians from Lebanonโ€™s alternative music scenes (alternative folk & rock, electronica, improvisation, etc.), as well as visiting foreign musicians.

Thomas Millroth is a Swedish writer and art critic. Nowadays he runs the Olof Bright label, alongside Swedish reeds player and improviser Mats Gustafsson. Thomas reviewed volume 2 of CD series The Ruptured Sessionsย for the very fabulous music blog Soundofmusic, on December 1st, 2010.ย Unfortunately for readers from this part of the world, Thomas’s review is in Swedish. It’s never too late for a trip to Scandinavia, is what we are thinking.
