LAZZY LUNG // Ruptured Session // 11 October 2010

The world of Lebanese-Canadian rock quartet LAZZY LUNG is an intriguing and wonderful one, indeed. The band took Radio Lebanon by storm on October 11, and spoke at length about the recording of its first album, “Strange Places”. Singer & guitar player Allan Chaaraoui, guitarist Patrick Hanna and percussionist Hadi Oueini (bass player Imad Jawad was missing in action that night) also performed several songs from “Strange Places”, live in Radio Lebanon’s studio.

RADWAN GHAZI MOUMNEH // 1st Ruptured Session // 20 September 2010

Lebanese producer & musician Radwan Ghazi Moumneh was the guest of Ruptures on September 20, 2010, for an enlightening interview and terribly enjoyable live performance. Moumneh is a man of many talents, producing for the likes of A Silver Mt Zion, Clues and Eric Chenaux, performing under the name Jerusalem In My Heart, and of course holding the fort at Thee Mighty Hotel2Tango, a renowned 24-track analogue studio situated in Montréal, Québec.

Electronic musicians Faysal Bibi and Sary Moussa, the mighty duo known as Okydoky & Radiokvm, were the guests of RUPTURES for an exclusive interview and live performance, following their appearance at Lebanese electronic festival Mad Parade II. For this Ruptured Session, Okydoky & Radiokvm momentarily suspended their habit of performing together, and played one piece each.

Lebanese dubstep duo INDEX/LEFT (Ziad Moukarzel & Jawad Nawfal) were the guests of RUPTURES to present a selection of new tracks recorded exclusively for their BASEMENT concert of July 16. And by the same token, the two hyperactive boys offered Ruptures’ audience an overview of the Dubstep genre, from its early beginnings to the present day.

Zeid Hamdan, the man behind Soapkills, New Government, and countless other Lebanese bands, was the guest of Ruptures to showcase his new project Zeid & The Wings. The band performed five songs in the studio of Radio Lebanon, and spoke at length about its numerous activities, including its appearance in the much-touted Shankaboot concert extravaganza.

MIKE COOPER // 1st Ruptured Session // 21 May 2010

British guitar player MIKE COOPER has established himself in the past decade or so as an international musical explorer, performing and recording, solo and in a number of inspired groupings and a variety of genres. His roots and inspiration range freely through traditional country blues, folk, original songs, free improvisation, pop songs, exotica, electronic music, electro-acoustic music, and ‘sonic gestural’ playing. Mike Cooper was the guest of RUPTURES to talk about his two concerts in Beirut, on May 24 at EM Chill (along with Scrambled Eggs, Beirut’s punk/experimental rock musical activists), and on May 26 at Beirut Art Center. Cooper was accompanied in this interview by Lebanese musician Sharif Sehnaoui.
